Supposing the United States had a female President or Vice President some time in the 1950s or 60s (in the Alternate Wikipedia Infobox thread I'm telling the story of President Margaret Chase Smith). Maybe its the scenario I mentioned in parentheses, maybe Ike chooses Margaret Chase Smith for VPOTUS in 1952, maybe Eleanor Roosevelt runs in 1948 or 1952, or what have you. What, if any, effect does this have on the election of female governors, congresswomen, or female senators? Might one party or the other make an active effort to recruit female candidates? Would we see more women in politics?

For reference, what effect did female heads of government have on other countries? Did more women stand for parliament after Maggie Thatcher was PM? Are there more women in the bundstag than there were before Angela Merkel became Chancellor of Germany?
