Effects of a Fremont Presidency

Pretty much what it says on the title

Quick Summary:
In 1856 the republicans announced their presidential nominee, The Speaker of the house Nathaniel P. Banks, Nathaniel quickly turned down the nomination and so the republicans went under the General and senator for California John C. Fremont. Fremont was not able to get much support behind him and the democrats shot him with allegations of being a Catholic and a bad General. Furthermore he would lose a large portion of supporter to Millard Filmore, who ran under the nativist American Party. James Buchanan would eventually win the race and have his disastrous 4 year term.

Say Fremont won the election, would his term be as bad as Buchanan, Would he cause the civil war earlier than in OTL.

Please help.
