Edward VIII pulls Indian hijinks

Something I've wondered is that if Edward VIII worded his abdication so that renounced the British Royal throne but not the Indian Imperial one. What happens next. Is he held at gun point and forced to renounce the Indian throne as well? Does he take the Crown of India and head on a steamer to Bombay? Does anyone listen to him if he manages to get there? Is there any chance whatsoever Edward VIII gets to keep India? What does he do?

The Viceroy certainly won't support him, nor the Government of India, so that's out.

The Dominions and most of the Colonies had already said they werent on board with Edwards marriage to Simpson, so i dont see him getting a throne on any of them

If he isnt a complete moron and actually plans things in advance, making alliances with the right people and cultivates this in advance, he'll get a low to medium actual power but high on the symbolic power Crown of India.

In other words, he'll be the guy everyone asks to the gala but no one asks to the boardroom, but sometimes, no one else is available and the crown needs to have someone that can smile and hold a pen.

After a while he fades into obscurity like OTL.

For some reason, I want to see Edward pull a Brazil.

Except in peace time(or PREFERABLY in peace time).

Not sure how plausible it is (in any meaningful timeframe even), but I would like to see this idea unfold.

In other words:

That's what I'd like to see happen. Edward goes to India and tells the locals "listen to me, your Emperor, and India shall be independent!" Maybe, just maybe, the Indians might be receptive enough to recognize him and force the Raj's hand ...

Edward VIII did not, nor would he be given the opportunity to so word the Act of Abdication. Now, were the Parliament of South Africa to defeat the His Majesty King Edward the Eighth's Abdication Act, 1937 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/His_Majesty_King_Edward_the_Eighth's_Abdication_Act,_1937), then the British Parliament's His Majesty's Declaration of Abdication Act 1936 would technically not have been applicable to South Africa.

Add to that the unusual implications of India having a "foreign" Emperor.

Maybe a revolution in Britain? Or an (unlikely?) occupation even?

And an earlier ascendency?

Assume he forges political ties with (local) rulers in India, and when the fecal matter collides with the ventilator he casually packs his stuff and moves to the crown jewel of the British Empire, declaring it independent?

One of the ideas that crossed my mind are a socialist/fascist "revolution"/uprising in Britain, or a "worse" (for Britain) WWII, that ends up with either said revolution (during or after WWII), or even occupation(and the propping up of a puppet government).

Obviously this would require either an earlier ascendency (and more shenanigans) and/or him not abdicating (as early) as he did OTL.

Folks, India is a no go! The British Parliament wrote the Act of Abdication and set the terms. Parliament is not going to let Edward VIII pull a fast one on them and neither will the Royal Family.

Yep. The alternative was a snap election, giving Baldwin an overwhelming mandate to legislate a vacancy in the throne.
