Edward VII dies early

In 1901 shortly before the coronation of Edward VII he came down with appendicitis. In OTL Sir Frederick Treves and Lord Lister used the latest in antiseptic technique and surgical knowledge to save his life. Suppose they fail - George V takes the throne a decade earlier. Edward's reign is noted for political good feelings internationally, would George V be able to do the same? Will the loggerheads between London and Paris remain when war breaks out, or does it break out at all?

Just a thought...Edward definitely peed off the Kaiser with his superior "elder stateman" style....Wilhelm found him ultra-patronising.

George was far more laid-back and of an age with Wilhelm. Maybe the whole naval race would never have begun. Maybe you might see an Anglo-German Entente.

After all they were cousins, and in those days the monarchs were certainly not just figureheads.

The Naval Race was already on and the British Monarchy was pretty much a figurehead. There were forces in the public and industrial sector that pushed for the expansion of the navies.
