Edward Longshanks doesn't try to conquer Scotland

What if Edward I didn't try to conquer Scotland, and instead focuses on campaigns in France?

Say Margeret of Norway doesn't die, meaning that Edward II is still betrothed to her. Edward then focuses on punishing France for them forcing him to seek peace over the issue of Gascony. What happens next?

Depends on how much time he can devote to it and how tough the opposition is, but the Plantagents probably are stronger in France - which probably impacts the HYW (if its not hit by a butterfly).

Still going to be bad when Edward II takes the throne, but perhaps much less so.

Edward (Longshanks) has still spent a lot of money on castle building in Wales, so his French campaigns are still limited.
