Edward II dies in 1326

A quick question, now Edward II had become very unpopular in his later reign, and was removed by a coup staged by Roger Mortimer and Queen Isabella in 1327, this was done through an invasion, which then placed Edward and Isabella's son Edward on the throne as Edward III. However, what would happen if Edward II died before this invasion came to be? Say he dies from a fever or some such, what happens then? How does this affect Isabella's plans?

To play safe, let's have him dying in 1325, before the queen departs to France.

You are going to have a Regency Council for his. You may have Edward's brothers as part of the council, and that creates some troubles. Thomas of Brotherton, 1st Earl of Norfolk, allied himself with Isabella and Mortimer when they invaded England in 1326, as he has some issues pending with the Despenser.

Then you have the other brother, Edmund of Woodstock, 1st Earl of Kent. He had previously been steadfast in his support for his half-brother, but he also joined the plot against the king.

In the autumn of 1328, Edmund and his brother Thomas joined Henry of Lancaster in a conspiracy against Isabella and Mortimer. Later on Edmund was executed by Mortimer for another plot... so... if you have Norfolk, Kent, Isabella and Mortimer as "Regents" for Edward III, it's going to be party time...

Okay interesting, would Mortimer definitely come back from France or wherever he spent his years in exile with Edward II dead?

How would the despensers be dealt with?

And what of relations with frnace?

Mortimer may return... the questions is if he was Isabella's lover before 1325, as some people seem to think.

The Despenser would follow the same historical path. They had too many enemies, as the brothers of Edward II, for instance.

All in all, hacing Edward II dying early changes very little. Instead of a gruesome killing you have a peaceful and earlier death, just that.

Okay interesting, so there would still be the destruction of the Despensers, to be replaced by the turbulence of the regency council of the king's uncles, his mother, and her lover. Oh the games that will be played there.

Could his death, potentially mean Charles IV has a son?
