Edmund Crouchback as King of Sicily

Edmund, brother to the later Edward I, was offered the Crown of Sicily before Charles d'Anjou.
What if he accepts and achieves this?
What impact on relations with France and Aragon and the wider mediterranean world would this have?

His existing power-base (such as it is) is not only smaller than Charles's but further away as well, which obviously doesn't help him. Charles already has not only his original French appanage of Anjou & Maine but also (through marriage) Provence as well, whereas Edmund only has the Earldom of Lancaster...

And judging by how Henry III failed to raise enough to buy the claim OTL, even tweaking things so he makes it isn't likely to mean Edmund has much support available from dad.

Henry of Almein doesn't get murdered by Guy de Montfort and Simon de Montfort II since they were only in Sicily at the time because they were in the service of Charles and there would be no chance of them being welcomed in Sicily if its king was the brother of Edward I.
