early Sprengel vacuum pump

If thats all it takes you might have it as early as Fahrenheit's time. If it existed as a long establish technology it could have a lot of spin off effects. I wonder what Newton would do with a vacuum?

Isaac Newton certainly knew about the existance of vaccum thanks to the Magdeburg hemisphere:

"The Magdeburg hemispheres were designed by a German scientist and mayor of Magdeburg, Otto von Guericke, in 1656 to demonstrate the air pump that he had invented, and the concept of atmospheric pressure. The first artificial vacuum had been produced a few years earlier by Evangelista Torricelli, and had inspired Guericke to design the world's first vacuum pump, which consisted of a piston and cylinder with one-way flap valves."

A much more improved vaccum pump would be interesting thou.
