Lets say a populist/progressive government gets elected in the late 1870's early 1880's. This government supports workers rights to belong to and organize a union. BY 1900 collective bargaining is already well established and a distinct middle class begins to form. By the end of the first world war the middle class is where it was by 1950 in our time line, encompassing everybody from the worker on the factory floor to the white collar professionals. Over the next 100 years what affect will this earlier coming of the middle class have? Will we see a pre ww2 mass suburban sprawl? Will the advances in consumer goods come even faster? What other effects will this have?
