All,
I'm trying to find an early destruction of the Ottoman for an amateur Alt History novel, at least in Europe (Rumelia and Greece) and North Africa, with a POD date from 1763 (end of 7 years war) to 1792 (start of French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars).
The best I can think of is the destruction of Prussia in 7 Years war. Both Austria and Russia routinely attacked the Ottoman and routinely won every major battle in this period. But Prussia often interfered indirectly (encouraging Sweden to declare war on Russia to stop a Russian invasion, threatening war with Austria if they didn't give back their gains) without actually getting involved.
I'm thinking the destruction of Prussia and potentially slightly more cooperation between Russia and Austria (like they did in the late 1780's) would have resulted in the conquest of all of European Ottoman Empire by 1792. Precisely how they'd split this is up for debate.
Note at this time, North Africa was defacto independent and frequently in rebellion as was Syria. Persia was constantly encroaching and Russia was overrunning the Caucusus.
I don't think France was in a position to interfere as they were flat ass broke and married into the Habsburgs anyway. GB would have tried but I doubt it would be effective (most of the fight would be on land).
Is there any reason why this wouldn't work?
Let me know if there is a better way.
