Early effective demise of the Ottoman Empire / Reconquest of Constantinople?

All,

I'm trying to find an early destruction of the Ottoman for an amateur Alt History novel, at least in Europe (Rumelia and Greece) and North Africa, with a POD date from 1763 (end of 7 years war) to 1792 (start of French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars).

The best I can think of is the destruction of Prussia in 7 Years war. Both Austria and Russia routinely attacked the Ottoman and routinely won every major battle in this period. But Prussia often interfered indirectly (encouraging Sweden to declare war on Russia to stop a Russian invasion, threatening war with Austria if they didn't give back their gains) without actually getting involved.

I'm thinking the destruction of Prussia and potentially slightly more cooperation between Russia and Austria (like they did in the late 1780's) would have resulted in the conquest of all of European Ottoman Empire by 1792. Precisely how they'd split this is up for debate.

Note at this time, North Africa was defacto independent and frequently in rebellion as was Syria. Persia was constantly encroaching and Russia was overrunning the Caucusus.

I don't think France was in a position to interfere as they were flat ass broke and married into the Habsburgs anyway. GB would have tried but I doubt it would be effective (most of the fight would be on land).

Is there any reason why this wouldn't work?

Let me know if there is a better way.

I have a POD in the 19th century have Mahmud II be killed by the Janisarries.

Recurrant coups d'etat's is one of my keys to bringing down the Ottoman. the Janissaries are a reactionary force and obsolete for the times. But they were a political force and didn't want to change. Several sultans were killed or overthrown by them.

Good point.

Also, I think the declaration of Egypts independence in 1768 needs to stick.

Anyone know of a source where I can find out how much tribute and manpower each province of the Ottoman contributed to the Empire?

The best way to rid Prussia is a POD of 1762 with Elisabeth not dying and Prussia getting curbstomped.

But the best straight POD past 1763 for the Ottomans to be crushed is the Greek Plan. Have the Austrians not fail in their war against the Ottomans and then the Russians will be able to get all the way to Constantinople. Keep a Russian army and an Austrian army on the border under notable commanders and the Prussians will be wary of war. And Sweden was practically a nonfactor, if the Russo-Swedish War doesn't turn south with that naval defeat for the Russians than the Russians can go as far as to conquer Finland. Maybe have the Russians offer concessions in Poland (more than OTL) in return for noninterference.

Thanks, a Prussian dismemberment in 1759 was my primary POD.

Without Prussia, I doubt it would take 30 years to kick the Ottoman out of Europe, Istanbul included.

With Austria and Russia emerging earlier and stronger (Austria retakes Silesia, Russia gets East Prussia or some other bit) and both are less broke due to 3 fewer years of war, the Ottoman will be pushed back with every conflict.
