Whens the earliest the Trans Siberian railroad could be built?

I can't rightly say when exactly it could be started, it certainly could have been finished earlier. The Transiberian was very much an imperial railway built with the intention of linking the far eastern part of Russia with the European homelands. Perhaps if there had been more of an impetus to open Siberia from the outset.

I think so. Wasn't gold discovered in 1848 or thereabouts? I think if the rush becomes bigger then it may speed up the RR's development by I at least a few years.

There were rumors in 1848 (around the same time gold was discovered in California) but I don't think substantive discoveries were made until the 1860s or 1870s.

Probably not hard to develop a realistic POD where substantive discoveries of gold are made in Alaska in the 1840s.

The big gold rush in the Yukon wasnt until 1896.

It should be possible in the 1880s, although VERY difficult and expensive. That is a LONG distance, and would have to be a strategic/military project, as it wouldnt be at all commercially viable.

It would make the Canadian CPR look like a walk in the park, really.

1890s far more likely. It should be doable some earlier than otl, but practically, its not going to be MUCH earlier.
