Earliest American North-South split?

Hey there, guys.

I was wondering what's the earliest possible time to have a peaceful or otherwise split between a slave-holding south and an abolitionist north in America? As in, the slave-holding states have to secede completely from the north.

1783 or thereabouts

I'm not sure if this qualifies as the OP's "slave-holding states have to secede completely from the north." Care to explain further?

To the OP; I'd say 1832's Nullification Crisis would be the earliest, but even then you'd need a significant POD to lead to a civil war and/or balkanization.

I would second the Nullification Crisis POD. If Jackson hadn't had such a forceful stance on the issue, Calhoun might've stood a chance at rousing disgruntled southern farmers in SC and beyond.

The South secedes during the Articles of Confederation or something.
Virginia would most likely stay in though.
