What would have happened if instead of invading Finland in 1940 the Soviets had struck earlier say March 1939 (the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed in August proir to this Stalin had attempted to seek an anti-Nazi pact with the UK and France) and still suffered the same amazing casualty rates and resistance from the Finns that they did in OTL.
Would the Germans rather than invading Poland attempt to bolster the Finns and lead to a proxy war between Germany and USSR fought in Finland.
