I have a bit of a soft spot for the US M1 Carbine, and I wonder how could we see its M2 variant, the fully automatic one with 30rnd magazine, be adopted from the very beginning, instead of its semi-automatic cousin with 15 rnds magazine. Yes, it may seem a bit wasteful to have a fully automatic weapon issued to the second line troops, which was the primary role of the M1 Carbine OTL, but seeing as it was supposed to be a replacement for both M1911 Pistol and Thompson SMG, I do think that it is doable.

If this goes through, US troops get an almost Assault Rifle, and while its cartridge is pistol sized, it would be the closest thing to an assault rifle that anyone will get for some time to come. Only thing that could be changed is to perhaps lower the firing rate, from 750rnd/min to a more managable rate, 600 or so?

Thoughts?
