Well it is part of setting that US finds alliance with Germany ,and even partly cooperate with USSR to against Anglo-Japanese Alliance, and actively intervene China situation.

I still think the Soviets or the Chinese would make more sense as they bordered the Empire of Japan and it's conquest.
