But how do we get Esperanto as the official language of the european union?

We don't. It has not cultural root in any country.
Why do you think Latin faded away ?
The official language need not necessarily be the common one. In fact choosing a "neutral" language--one that isn't spoken in any member state--would have the advantage of putting everyone on an equal footing. In that regard I agree it isn't as implausible as one might think.I think the only way would be to do something similar to what happened in South America with spanish.A centralized government, possibly neo-Nazi or something like the movie V for Vendeta (the actual economic crisis provokes neonazi ascension), imposes a common language, Esperanto.
Somehow prevent the rise of the National Socialists. They killed every Speaker of Esperanto they catched.
Both Hitler and Stalin killed Esperanto by killing those that spoke it.Really? I mean I know its the Nazis were talking about here but even by their standards thats just... wierd![]()
