Had they lost the war, how would the Latin American political landscape look like? As we all know, after Paraguay managed to win the war, they managed to get unrestricted access to the Parana and Uruguay river and a few river forts. Besides Rio Grande and Santa Catalina got their independence and became Paraguayan puppets, just like Uruguay. This lead to the Paraguayan economic miracle, becoming one of the leading economies of the continent, rivalling only Venezuela-Colombia.

This also causes some butterflies later on. Would Brazil still have its Civil War and fall to a warlord period (remember that most historians claim that the defeat at the Triple Alliance War planted the seed for the Revolution)? Would the Chaco War still happen? And most importantly, would Paraguay still develop WMDs and be invaded by the US? (I know it's far-fetched, but hey, speculating is free)

Any ideas?
