DWI: Hitler’s attack on France succeeded

Pretty much what it says on the tin. What do you all think would happen if Hitler had actually been able to knock France out of the war quickly in 1940 as he had hoped? do you think the Nazi’s really would’ve put all their crazy plans into to action & what do you think would’ve happened in eastern and central Europe?

Iknow this is a much discussed subject on AH, but it’s still interesting nonetheless.:)

The peace of 1941 would not have been forced on Germany. The chaos following the coup in 1942 would not have resulted in a banking collapse. that nearly restarted the great depression. The war could have spred beyond europe easely.Thats just for starters. The butterflies are huge.

Do you think that with Hitler in control of France, he would have tried that Seelöwe thing? Could it have succeeded?

What about China? If Japan had joined the war against the allies, would Chiang join the allies? Would the allies let him?

The lack of oil forced the Japanese to the peace of 1943. Would this have been butterflied away as well?

Stalin being forced by the League of Nations to give up the portion of Poland that the Soviets had taken during thier non aggression pact with Germany nearly resulted in war. Then the Finland question did result in war. Its been 70 years and that part of the world still is a mess.

Well if by ''give up'' you mean take all the bits with a Ukrainian or Byelorussian majority, dick around with the borders a bit and then deport all the Poles left in Soviet held territory.

Could the UK and France pressed the issue and kicked the Red Army out? Maybe but at massive cost and after the throuble they just had with Germany no-one was too keen on starting another war.

Finland is indeed a mess, their defeat and Stalinization has caused a lot of grief for that country and provoked Sweden to build up it’s military. I’m honestly surprised Stalin simply didn’t annex Finland as an SSR but he seemed to have a odd habit of reviving old Tsarist traditions, so Finland is a semi-independent puppet state.

Still U.S.S.R has been on a liberalizing trend in recent years so there is some hope on that front…

On another not,e how do people think Mussolini would've acted had the Germans done better early in the war?

Of course if the European War had still been raging, FDR might have managed a third term and the Wilkie reforms that finally put an end to the Depression would have been delayed at best.

Whittington, FDR was reelected in the fall of 1940, at or before the the POD, nice try tho, better luck next time.:D

It would be ASB to figure that the outcome of the 1940 election would be changed by the war ending in 1941.

Also in 1940 the Democratic Party could have nominated nearly anyone and that person stood a good chance of being elected. That's how unpopular Hoover and anyone who could be associated with him was. If Wilkie had come in 1940 and started talking about dismantling the New Deal he would have been thrown out on his ear.
