DWI: Bellerio's Riots a failure?

14 September of 1996.

This is the fateful day that has started the hcain of events that has forever changed the political landscape not only of Southern Europe and Italy, but of the entire continent.

But what would have happened, if the people that were going to form the Padanian Liberation Front, had been successfully dispersed in Via Bellerio, or if their leader, Bossi, had a stroke just before starting?

I can only guess that there would not be so many problems in getting Neapolitans leave the Italian Peninsula. But, as for the rest?

Well, South Ossetia and Abkhazia would likely be independent, but Kosovo, Donetsk, Luhansk, Scotland, Catalonia, Chechnya, Texas and Hawai'i may not be.

What would make South Ossetia and Abkhazia the odd ones out, in this timeline?

I mean, they have more reasons to separate than, say, Catalonia and Hawai'i. I think in a world where separatist movements are less popular, there would not be any new nations for quite a while.

(They declared independence prior to the PoD.)

OOC: Why would Texas or Hawaii declare independence over some Italian separatists? Hawaii in particular is reliant of US goods to survive.

If any state is gonna secede, it's Alaska.

OOC: There's another Hawaii independence thread actually open now. Hawaiian separatists are a fringe group. Less than 6% of Hawaiians are interested in independence and 67% would be strongly opposed. Hawaii isn't going anywhere.

I agree on Alaska, although it's still ASB. With a 1996 POD none of the US states are going anywhere.

OOC:Im just saying they have the least to loose from independence. Texas has a robust economy, but its deeply imbedded in the American economy. Independence would only hurt its status as an energy capital.
