What would happen if instead of leading his crusading army into the holy land, Barbarossa dies during a river crossing.

Well, I doubt the Hohenstaufen emperors would have been as strong. The Holy Land might have fallen sooner to Islam. I doubt that the Hohenstaufen would have been able to create such a firm grip on the Imperial throne and stay in power for so many years. This might have prevented the creation of as strong a French monarchy, as the Capet were allied with the Hohenstaufen. Perhaps the Angevin Empire would have survived?

What, your talking about THE Barbarossa ? Unless facing an entire muslim army, I can't see him drowning in a river. It's like saying Richard Lionheart were killed by a crossbow bolt during a petty siege !

Perhaps the "kingdom of France" would had bean more than a pachwork of douchies and counties and that fate would had gone to the Western Roman Empire (OOC: Otl Holy Roman Empire) IC: In which the Hounstolfens succefully turn the tittle king of the romans into a hereditory position along with the title Emporer of the West while the title king of France became a elective position. It's probibly why in Europa Univeralis III the Western Roman Empire is known as the "great greenish blob".

Maybe France and England will have the same position in this timeline as the OTL Western and Eastern Roman Empires have.:p

OOC: I am basing this timeline on Elfwine's fate of France and the Holy Roman Empire in the timeline an Eagle of bosporus a little exept in his timeline France completly collaspes by the 14th century while in this it has a Holy Roman Empire like death.

OOC:except that the second post already establiched the fact of a strong French monarchy.

OOC: can we keep powerful centralized HRE though?
IC: Man I wrote that??? Wow how did I even fathomed writing that?!? Was I possesed or something??? So maybe their wouldn't had bean the great alliance betreen the English and the Eastern Romans like in OTL which was born in order to combat the French and Germans. Of course eventually the Germans and the french clashed and the alliance system changed in the end of the 100 year's war and the extiction of the houstoulfens which were inherited by the house of Habsburg. The fall of the alliance of the French and germans and the subsiquint hostility had the French ally with the Eastern Romans (with them both having a grundge against the WRE) and the English with the Western Romans (with them both trying to take out France) Which would establish the Eternal Alliance that would continou untill the French Revalution in the late 18th century and the Luisianian Wars (OOC: the ITTL Napoleanic Wars).
