Dutch neutrality-origins?

So, when did the Netherlands gain its neutral mentality that it possessed throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries? Was it because of its losses to England in the 18th century? The incursions by the first French Republic? Or did something else cause it?

It wasn't so much The Netherland's choice, but rather the choice of the countries surrounding it. Given it's location of being smack dab in between three of the "big five", the U.K, France and Prussia (eventually Germany) figured that the first to enter Holland would raise the ire of the other two and would be disadvantaged in such a conflict. Of course this was perfectly fine with the Dutch, given their pursuits and dispositions of the time... They understood the the days of "Niej Amsterdam" and "Goed Hoop" were long gone, and they were benefiting from commerce on all sides.
