Dutch exodus after failed independence war.

I was wondering if the Dutch would flee from the Netherlands if they lost the war and where they'd flee to. Choose a POD any time during the war, firstly as I'm interested if at different periods of the wars end more or less would flee and would the political climate at the time change where they go, if everything else is the same as the OTL.

Secondly how would the places they flee to be effected by a sudden influx of refugees.

And finally would they assimilate into the regions they'll inhibit like the Huguenots or would they try to still keep their culture like the Jews.

Well, there's always Germany and England. Similar places to where the Huguenots went. Though they might end up settling in the English colonies, too. Alternatively, there's always the possibility that they try to set up their own colonies with nowhere else to go...?

I wouldn't expect a huge exodus. Assuming the Spanish are capable of defeating the Dutch rebels, that means they can offer them terms that are at least broadly acceptable to a lot of them. A Catholic reconquista could see a significant number of committed Protestants leave, but they cannot drive out the entire population.

My assumption would be that they settle mainly in German Protestant lands, England and Scandinavia. Assimiliation would take a few generations, but in the end it will likely go much as it did IOTL with the Dutch who settled there. It would be interesting to see how the more inflexible Lutheran churches of the region would deal. Hamburg, e.g., had a major stick up its arse when it came to foreigners with weird religions. Being good businessmen, they couldn't pass up this opportunity, but there'll be hell to pay with the principal church pastors once Calvinist heretics are allowed to openly congregate.

Just to add, the Netherlands was a great share of Spanish revenue and there's a limit on how poorly you can treat your sources of income. Also it would probably mirror the hundred years war where skilled weavers in Burgundy migrated to England and Germany
