What if the Dutch explorer, Willem de Vlamingh in 1697 stayed a bit longer and followed more the instructions of financier, Nicolaes Witsen, director of the VOC, of the expedition put more effort in their scientific and exploration task and did explore more in land.
Suppose the expedition found Sandalwood trees, which was one of the trade commodities of the Dutch East India, VOC. Suppose this discovery will alter the report Willem de Vlamingh made of this expedition to a favorable one instead of a negative report. Due to this positive report of the presence of valuable Sandalwood the VOC decide to establish a trade post and refreshing station at the Swan river.
