Duchy of Normandy

WI: William the Conqueror had never invaded and conquered England. How would Normany have developed and would it have been re-integrated back into France sooner?

Normandy would have probably stayed as nothing more than one of France's main fief in William the Conqueror never invaded England.

The Duke of Normandy was one of the most strongest nobles in France, due to the fact he was a peer and thus had a voice in the king's election (though the succession was de facto from father to son, the French King was de jure elected) and coronation. But nothing more.

However, there is a good chance he wouldn't get more. However, if William never becomes King of England because he doesn't invade, he won't have problems with the French King : Henri I of France supported William until he became King of England.

Normandy could stay as an independant Duchy longer than it was OTL, since it was conquered by Philip Augustus in 1204. Here, the Plantagenêts will not necesserarily rose to power and thus the French King will take care of integrating Normandy into the royal domain later.

I'm wondering what would happen to England without William the Conqueror. We'd probably see Harold the Saxon crowned King when the Confessor dies, but then what?
