Dreams, Hopes, and Grandstanding

"No, it's been changed. We're going this way."

"Goddammit..." Robert Kennedy nodded and smiled, while quietly pushing his way back to Barry. The ex-FBI agent failed to hide a frown, and indeed a tiresome sigh exited his mouth as they went through the swinging doors.

...

"Shit..."

The young Arab concealing a .22 Caliber Cadet fiddled anxiously about the hotel kitchen. He gritted his teeth, sweat running down his forehead, his brown eyes so wide open they needed to close. He could feel his heart pumping at extraordinary rates.

"...must die..."

...

"...thank you, all." a few reports clapped as the Senator stepped down. Suddenly, an assistant hotel manager gestured to him.

"Sir..."

"Yeah? Go ahead, I'm listening..."

"I don't really know how to say this, but... there was someone here with a gun."

"A gun?"

"Not just that. You see, sir, he was waiting for you."

Kennedy remained still for a moment, before nodding. "Oh... I see. What happened to him?"

"We have him in custody, and the police will arrive shortly. I urge you to return to your room at once, until the matter is sorted."

"Of course. Thank you."

The two shook hands, and Kennedy turned to Barry. He frowned again. Kennedy, before entering the elevator, glared at him. "Shut up..."

"What'd you mean, someone tried to kill Kennedy?"

"Maybe not... but the point is, Rich, there was someone in the hotel with a gun, and the Senator was there."

"Fuck... the bastard just got himself a ten point boost."

...

"Are you alright, Bob?"

"Yeah, I'm fine. Thanks for calling, George."

"`Course I would, Bob!"

...

"Print out a statement."

"Yes, Governor. Nothing too touchy, I assume?"

"Short and clear. If he wants, I'll go down to LA and meet with him in person, but I'm not going to turn an assassination attempt into a photo-op."

...

"Hmm."

"Yeah, Lyndon?"

"Why couldn't the bastard just get him?"

...

"Shame about all the hate flowing around."

"Couldn't agree more, Mr Vice President."

"Oh well, better get out a statement."
