In the anime series dot. Hack, the Internet suffers a massive crash due to an AI virus on December 24, 2005:

What would happen to life across the globe with the crash of the Internet, even temporarily? In the series, legislation is passed because of the crash, including the impeachment of the U.S. President. How would society change with the sudden shutdown of the flow of information from porn to cat videos?

So any thoughts? In the space of 4 months, President George W. Bush has seen the flooding of New Orleans and because of the PODs , saw the collapse of the Internet? What happens next?

In 2005, eh.. Not so much for most people, business would continue.
2007-2010, each year the reliance on the net becomes more so. I would say the last 8 years the most. Since cell phones are always connected bringing the experience where ever you go with email and messaging and web browsing. Now everyone has an app. In 2005, not so much.

Don't get me wrong it would cause issues, but life would continue to roll on in 2005.

Last 5 years you might get a revolution if they can't play candy crush or Pokemon or some thing if that nature. Plus no porn?! Jesus we would have to back to old fashioned wars to compensate

Well, consider that this is based on the canon of the series. In the meantime, what effects would this crash have, especially since it effective prevents a successful launch of Facebook. At the very least, it means we are all on Myspace....
