Dominion of the South

There was a real possibility of the Lower South, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, in the ARW being a Dominion of the UK, what do you think the effects would be if that had happened?

It'd be interesting. It's probably butterfly away Manifest Destiny and westward expansion would probably stop at the Mississippi.

Spain may well hold on to Florida in this TL too, though I could still somehow see Andrew Jackson leading a filibuster into the region. :p

Slavery would basiclly be on Britain's shoulders to resolve. Depending on how they do it, could very well lead to another revolution instead of a civil war.

If Great Britain retains the Lower South after the 1770's it might also retain East & West Florida as well. The Floridas plus the Bahamas could easily become part of this Dominion Regarding Jackson, I see butterflies that result in him being a great General who, along with thousands of brave Dominion soldiers won key victories against French forces during the Napoleonic Wars.

I wouldn't be too sure about M.D. and Dominion expansion ending at the Mississippi. Perhaps France would be forced to part with it at the Congress of Vienna (or its TTL counterpart), presuming events in Europe unfold much as they did in OTL.

I agree with all this. Particularly westward expansion. While the British in the north (that is to say, Canada-as-was) will still be dealing regularly with the Iroquois et al, and hence stepping lightly, in the south I believe there's far less of an established Indian state forming (I could be wrong) so there should be less of a problem for the British - also, taking (the south of) the Louisiana should solve this. With the Americans likely to be as expansionist as ever, this could possibly see a British-sanctioned race to expand westwards, though of course the British dominion is likely to be less gung-ho about their actions, especially where controversial as per natives' rights.

Again, just my thoughts though. I'm no expert here.

West of Georgia you have to deal with the Muskogi and the Cherokee which, if I'm not wrong, mostly fought on the British side and had it won they would be rewarded.

And about Florida, unless you butterfly away the Spanish successes in the area, which didn't have much to do with the actions of the rebels, the British are doomed to award it. Yet the 20+ years of British occupation were very destructive to the Spanish population (most prefered to move to Cuba, even Catholic Indians) so I can see it falling quickly when the next Spanish-British War takes place.

Regarding Florida, don't forget that as soon as it was given to Spain, all the Loyalists cramming into the Floridas were then forced to leave....and then no SPANISH wished to move in, and Spain was then forced to give good packages to the now-independent Americans.

Instead, if Florida is kept from the get-go, no problem. If not, then the Southern Dominion Anglophones will move in place of OTL Americans (indeed, many will be the same people with just a different alliegence).

I've also been a big fan of a Loyalist America taking New Orleans-scenarios lately, since obviously there's no Louisiana Purchase in TTL. Just seems interesting to see it from a new perspective as the final phase of their TTL French and Indian Wars and as a theater of the Napoleonic Wars.

Need not be said, this place is called 'Carolina'? After all, North Carolina and Georgia were carved out of what was then-officially South Carolina territory, and they claimed Florida, and also almost settled Louisiana as Carolana, which might give a convenient claim to Louisiana (http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc245/umbricman/?action=view&current=Carolana.gif).

EDIT: Added in the potential Dominion name/Carolana tidbits.
