Dominion of East India?

Wasn't the whole point of partition to divide British India along religious lines? Why include a bunch of Hindu areas along with Burma? What would be the rationale behind such a conglomeration?

Yes. One COULD create a Dominion of Bermuda, ZAnzibar and Singapore. But it would be stupid.

Burma is a very different place to east india. The only way it would be folded into an 'indian' dominion would be if all british south asia were a single entity.

Heck, there arent really any land communications between eastern india and burma.

So, no. No way.

No. It isn't possible, and there isn't a lot of desire for one either, because any such union would be utterly dominated by Bengal. In India, you could make the case that the influence is spread out more equitably but in this scenario, you're going to have a capital in Bengal, run by Bengalis, making the country effectively Greater Bengal. And I can't imagine any Assamese, or Orissans, let alone Burmese, accepting that.

The partition of India into India and Pakistan was not supported by the majority of the people at that time. Most of the Hindus and many Muslims were against it. It was the machinations of the British Government and its encouragement of Muslim League under the traitor Jinnah that forced the Congress to accept the partition. Mahatma Gandhi was against it till the end. Hence any schemes for other partitions like the formation of a Dominion of East India would have faced strong opposition from the people, much greater than the revolt against the partition of Bengal in 1905.
