I've always been fascinated by the concept of a Third World War in 1990 or 1991 between the U.S/NATO and Soviet Union plus (at least) North Korea invading South Korea.

Assuming it would be a variation of the Sir John Hackett (only a handful of nuclear weapons used), Red Storm Rising, and The War That Never Was Scenarios.

I assumed (based on another thread) that the total killed in the war would be between 7.5 and 9 million in about 30 days of fighting. With 3 million of those dead coming in West Germany, 600,000 in the United Kingdom, and 100-150,000 U.S. fatalities.

What would the political situation in the U.S. look like for the ensuing two decades?

I assumed a second term for President Bush. But followed by Al Gore as president (Gore had a strong reputation on defense that would help him).
