How long is the Empire going to keep fighting?

My first thought was supply the Allies but otherwise stay out, but that assumes that the Allies can keep fighting. At historic tempos the UK is out of warm bodies by 1945. Of course the Allies will be slowing down into siege mode in this scenario, but they can't keep fighting forever. There goes the US's proxie.

At this point you have to wait for the internal contradictions of the Axis powers to tear them apart and provide a new opening.
How reliably would the uk be able to pull troops from India?

For the purposes of this let's say if the Soviets join 1939- mid1940, Italy stays neutral initially and begins to open channels with the ally's but because of the swift fall of France, negotiations break down and Italy joins the axis out of opportunism like otl. We need no set up for a mid 1940-1941 entry because Italy is already in the axis. (I'm mainly looking for all major axis members plus the Soviets for this thread)

Almost certainly; US leadership (i.e. most elite opinion) was critical and fearful of Nazi Germany. An outright Nazi-Soviet alliance would be even more threatening.

As noted, Japan could be excluded from the Axis, as being in conflict with the USSR. Japan could then become a co-belligerent with the Allies, as the USSR did OTL.

OTOH, Japan and the USSR could partner in dividing China, and with Germany in seizing the British, French, and Dutch colonies in SE Asia.

re-reading the timeline of US/Allied aid to China, both US and UK tried to avoid pushing Japan into Axis (as much as possible) but if they have joined an alliance that already includes USSR it would seem an intolerable situation?

Chiang Kai-Shek had proposed a "fundamental solution" to bomb Japanese ships in port, IF the US seemed a determined neutral? UK might try such an operation? https://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-CBI-Mission/USA-CBI-Mission-1.html

(and quite frankly it likely draws US into the war?)

How long is a piece of string?

On one hand India provided a huge volunteer army. On the other a bigger army comes with a huge political cost. At what point does someone point out that India is providing most of the bodies but has none of the say? On another hand do you want them? As a largely agricultural nation a large portion of the population is going to lack the educational and technical background to easily turn into modern troops.

So yeah. It is doable. Just at what cost.

Do you have an idea on how long India would stay in the fight if they were guaranteed independence?
