Does anyone remember Turningpoint?

If you don't, it was a bad Xbox 360 game. Its in the 50s where a Nazi Germany invades the USA via Zeppelins and whatever. I remember there was a big hype for it, but GameStop let me try it before buying and it resulted in me getting GTA 4 instead.

Anyways, the point of this post is I was so disappointed, being the highschooler I was. I tried to make up my own scenario in which something like that could have happened. However, I do understand a part of it may fit in ASB and I just want to know your thoughts.

Pretty much the Axis rolls over Europe. Their victory in the middle east allows them to attack the USSR via the carcasses and cut off Stalin's main oil. Pearl Harbor doesn't happen, but Roosevelt pressures Congress and does a few unpopular executive orders to build the military and defenses on the west and east coast.

The part I believe is ASB is the Germans manage to occupy New Found land Island in 1944 and use it to bomb Canada, where the British retreated to carry on the fight.
I know the presence of German or foreign troops in the western hemisphere would have had a military response from the USA, but they would need time to come up with one and since this America is building up their military might, they probably would have responded in a timely manner.

Only before an attack by the USA can happen, the Germans turn their Luftwaffe and Kreigmarine to try and cripple the United States the following summer in 1945. Naval battles in the North Atlantic happen. The American navy attempts to keep the east coast safe. The Americans are the only ones with Aircraft carriers and they discover that they are very useful and are the future of naval supremacy as German naval bombers sink multiple battleships.

I had it so the Germans have long range escort fighters and bombers to go as far as New York and a massive battle similar to the Battle of Britain happens. The end result is the Germans lose because they can't keep up with logistics and manpower. Not to mention with the USN in full force, reinforcements to the island are kept at bay, and the fact that the American radars all over New England are tracking the Germans every move to their targets. They manage to hit New York, but the following battles were a massacre for the Germans.

Here's where I see your problems...

-Are we assuming there's still the POD of Churchill dying in the taxi accident? Even if not, how exactly do the Germans achieve victory in the Middle East? What do they do differently?

-The problem for Germany wasn't oil in Barbarossa - though it was an overall strategic one. The problem was sending in an invasion with overstretched supply lines into a country that turns to mud or snow, led by a man who doesn't care a bit for his nearly-endless supply of bodies. Getting oil from the Middle East doesn't handwave that.

-How does Pearl Harbor not happen in this TL? America and Japan were going to butt heads eventually. Especially if Japan is as aggressive as it was in OTL.

-Yes, I agree; the occupation of Newfoundland is ASB. We're not going to allow it. The British aren't going to allow it (even if Sealion or a negotiated peace happened, those who refuse to surrender would flee there). The Canadians are going to fight tooth and nail. And FDR would be a fool to take time rearming America if it's completely surrounded by Axis power.

-Germany simply cannot project its power to North America. Even Hitler thought the final battle with America would be generations later.

-The German navy is going to have one hell of a time taking on even a US Navy that did not reach the potential seen IOTL. They did not have the material, economy or crews for the fleet of Bismarcks you see in the game. The only way they could do it is if they captured the Royal Navy (which had aircraft carriers), and it either would have fled to Canada, joined the US or been scuttled at Scapa Flow.

-While there were plans for an Amerikabomber (perhaps CalBear or someone more up on WWII avionics can comment here), again, the issue is not enough economy or material to produce the fleet needed to impact America. To say nothing of how heavily we would guard our leading city with the enemy a proverbial stone's throw away.

Churchill is alive in this.

At the time I thought of a generic reason for Germany's victory in Russia. As for the middle East, even if Germany won El Alemain, Romel was going to be over extended and the Italians probably weren't prepared to go further passed Cairo.

At the time in high school, I didn't do much research as I do now about the subjects. So I really don't have a plausible reason for, say, Japan not attacking Pearl Harbor.

My main goal was the scenario from New Found land. Thinking about it now and what you said about how Hitler really didn't care about the terrain in Russia. So by some sort of dark miracle he conquers Europe, I figure he would be a bit more reckless and not care what it takes to attack North America with a feeling of further invincibility in succeeding where other tyrants have failed.
