Do you hear the people sing ?

or, a much more boring title - WI: June rebellion succeeds ?

The rebellion spreads among the general population, the rioters take control of Paris, the militia and regular unit either join them, desert or are defeated and Luis-Phillipe is killed.

Other than no (or a different) Les Miserable, what can we reasonably expect ?

I would suspect the Second French Republic not to last that long. Bonapartists are still going strong and Louis-Napoleon even made two attempts for coup d'etats in 1836 and 1840 in OTL and with a republican government I suspect that the political allies of Napoleon III in France will be more active. Also, thanks to butterflies maybe Napoleon II might even become emperor if he avoids tuberculosis (unlikely with a POD that late) OR Napeoleon's brother Joseph (former King of Spain) might become emperor if the Bonapartists come into power before 1844 (the year of his death).

Sadly I'm not the biggest expert on French history after 1815, so... Let's hope others more knowledgeable than me can fill the gaps.

IIRCthe June rebellion was largely confined to Paris. So if they do succeed Im thinking you get a 'second republic' thats confined to Paris for a bit until its put down.
But it probably opens the way for a Bonipartist coup and earlier 2nd empire.

Also props for les mis

Oh, I think it can succeed, your timing is simply off. For one, as already noted, "Napoleon III" is already skulking about looking for an opportunity. Something needs to be done about him first, but as the most ambitious surviving Bonaparte, it's not certain the rest of his family would carry on if he was gone. Second, actually killing Louis-Philippe is a bad idea; regicide erodes a certain amount of popular support, so let the man and his family flee to London.

As Paris goes, so goes France. If the rebels succeed in taking the city and causing the King to flee, it is they who will be mopping up the rural areas and other cities, not vice versa.

However, the OTL June rebellion was more like a large riot than an organized, semimilitary uprising; what has happened to change that?
