Divided Sinai

Prior to Camp David, the Israeli plan in the Sinai had been to return the western third to Egypt, hand the central portion to the UN, and keep the eastern third from El Arish to Sharm el-Sheikh for Israel (thus guaranteeing Israel pretty free access out of the Gulf of Eilat/Aqaba and more buffer space).

What if the Sinai had been divided in two along an El-Arish/Sharm el-Sheikh line, with the UN buffer zone thus being in both Israel and Egypt, rather than returned to Egypt in full?

Might more settlement in the Sinai mean less settlement in the West Bank?

You might see more settlement in Sinai rather than Gaza. The West Bank is an entirely different story because of the issue of the West Bank being part of biblical Israel.

No Camp DAvid Accords. Peace was achieved because the Israelis gave back every inch. Sadat needed that to push it through. He was willing to accept limitations on that soverignty i.e limited troop positioning in the eastern third but he had to get back all of it. That's why Taba and 3 other scraps of desert became so contentious after the deal was signed
