Divided Italy in Cold War (Communist north and Capitalist south)

So, I've been a longtime reader of the forums, and since there was no thread specifically dealing with this alternate reality (at least that i've found), I've decided to join in and make it.

1. What would it take for Italy to be divided in the cold war in a way similar to germany or korea?

2. How would the division be established (by treaty, warfare, or just military occupation respectively by soviet and western forces leading to a de facto separation), and where in Italy would it be?

3. How would both states fare socially and economically in the cold war period? Would the south remain a monarchy or change into a republic?

Personally, I think this would be an interesting experiment from the social viewpoint, since northern Italy was already heavily industrialised in '45, and would be curious to see how a socialist economy would be developed in a place where the stalinist rush for heavy industry would be completely unnecessary. Do you think the Italian communists would still push for senseless development of industry in spite of a lack of consumer goods? Maybe they would seek a more 'titoist', or at least independent approach to a socialist economic management? Also, would the south remain a rural, mob-infested backwater (no offense intended here, because my family itself comes partially from the campania, as I'm italian-brazilian, and it really saddens me to know my ancient homeland suffers from these social ills), or would american heavy investment make the south much more developed than in OTL, to showcase the "merits of market economy"?

The capitalist south almost certainly retains the monarchy, they voted overwhelmingly in favor of the monarchy in the referendum.

Also, we know what happens when Stalinist economics is implemented in an already industrialized area, that was Czechoslovakia IOTL and all it lead to was economic stagnation.

Thanks! I really liked your timeline, it looks quite realistic and well thought out. However, why did you use lamborghini (whom IMHO would've fled south) instead of berlinguer?
Because Berlinguer is quite a convergent choice and probably wouldn't have risen in the same way as OTL if North Italy was actually a socialist state in the Warsaw Pact.

Lamborghini, given his socioeconomic background and gifts in engineering (probably the field most-revered by communists in the 20th century), would have stayed north in this scenario. The border goes up and things are pretty tense quickly after the war, meaning a quick run across the border to South Italy is really off the cards.
