Divide British North America

What if each region of British North America instead of having a revolution conducted a referendum where upon each area (need not be a whole state) would either become independent or remain apart of the Empire

Loyalists 20%
Patriots 45%
Undecided 35%

Which regions would break free and which would stay loyal?

The Empire wouldn’t have allowed the referendum or accepted its results, so there’s a revolution coming anyway.

I don't think we have the kind of detailed census data to figure out which regions would do what.

If the regions are smaller than states as you suggested then you could easily end up with a bizarre patchwork of British and American territory.

Georgia could end up totally British and i think their were a few rural areas that originally were pro loyalist but turned patriot due the the way the war swing and all

AFAIK the southern colonies were generally more lukewarm than the northern ones, so I imagine you'd end up with the area from Maine to Maryland seceding and the rest remaining British.

Based upon their results, New England and Virginia would probably split. Everywhere else would stay together, as they were opposed to Revolution.

Thats no saying that GB would allow them to leave.
