So had anyone ever played the naval sim Distant Guns? And if so is it worth getting. I have the demo and am finding it quite entertaining but is it really worth 50-60 bucks?
I have its close relative Jutland, which uses the same engine. I have only played the demo and this has not convinced be to invest in the fully playable version. I find the simulation's interface somewhat confusing and the graphics not up to the current standards for 3-D. Since graphics are way worse than the current standard, I would rather the simulation had saved cost and megabytes by adopting a simple scalable top-down stylized 2D representation of ships and more intuitive command structure. I also consider the sims' focus on a specific battle/campaign (The Russo Japanese War and Jutland) awfully restrictive for the price. I would rather the sim was more open-ended and gave the player much greater access to all navies and ships in each period to create AH campaigns and scenarios. I was pleased to see that an add-on consisting of the US Grand Fleet Squadron has been offered to the full version of Jutland. Include the Japanese, French, Italian, Russian, and Austro-Hungarian fleets in a general WW1 sim, and I'd almost certainly plop down that 50-60 bucks and take the effort to figure out the interface.
