Basically, the company had gone into a downslide following the death of Walt Disney, with company revenues from theme park attractions deemed more viable than pursuing of animation (reportedly at one point theme parks generated 70% of the company's profits). Attempts by outside parties like Coca Cola and Saul Steinberg to take over the company occurred in the early 1980s, and despite efforts to innovate the company seemed to be in doldrums.

With all that in mind, what if Walt Disney had fallen to a takeover that broke up the company's less profitable departments, or had chosen to license, sell off or shut down their animation division and transition solely to live events? What effect would that have on animation in North America without the Disney Renaissance, or on copyrights law if Disney is focused solely on protecting their property as relating to the theme parks?
