And a Kotor movie would be even worse in this case as an even fewer people know anything about the Old Republic at all, and so there's very little to attract them compared to Darth Vader, the Death Star,or even Han Solo
But what the Old Republic does have, is a lot of guys with lightsabers. We're talking thousands of Jedi and Sith. Make sure the trailer showcases the lightsaber action, and people will flock to see it.

What's more, there are so many powerful Sith Lords that Darth Vader's corridor scene would be the rule, not the exception. Sith Lightning certainly would come to the fore.

Make a good damn movie. Rogue One was a good movie. Solo not so much.
You know, I actually enjoyed Solo. Of course, I went into it with very low expectations after the utter disaster that was TLJ. I wish they had kept more of Han's EU backstory, but I thought they did a really good job of showing why Han was such a cynic and a good guy at the same time. Having said all that, I still waited for it to come out on Netflix before I watched it

And then it promptly looses it's coolness factor as everyone and their mother is throwing it around.

It may well end up leading back to the old EU issue of force users becoming more and more powerful to the point you end up with the likes of Palpatine Reborn, Vititate, Abeloth, etc running around and always having to one up another. In the end, Jedi, Sith, and force users in general will either end up as chums no better than stormtroopers, while the protagonists end up always being godlike. And they will make every Jedi and Sith on screen look that much weaker.

The desirableness of this would depend on the person.

That’s just it. They kept parts of his backstory, but changed the most important bits. In the old EU, Han has been Court Martialed for disobeying orders and releasing Wookiee slaves. In Solo getting Chewie released was due to him being trapped anyway, and needing help/safety from a fellow prisoner.
In the EU that showed Han’s basic goodness and wilingess to do the right thing and damn the consequences.

OTOH, a KOTOR movie would give us something we've never seen before: a battle between dozens of Force Users. All previous lightsaber duels have been either one-on-one or at most two-on-one. The only time we get to see large numbers of Force Users in action is AotC. And that was entirely against droids. Imagine that same scene, but replace the droids (not all of them obviously) with lightsaber wielding Sith.

Your concern about making them either too OP or cannon fodder is valid. So what you do is, make the majority of the Jedi and Sith clearly better than the average soldier, but have two or three from each side being a cut above the rest. That lines up fairly well with how both orders are portrayed in the old EU novels.

I bet they would Disney likes their money. But I suspect they might do a different plotline than the current existing media - making them not canon.
