in the Man in the High Castle (axis victory) universe there is a novel called the grasshopper lies heavy in which the fictional auther speculates on a allied victory over the axis forces and a cold war between the primary victors of the war, the United States and the United Kingdom.
There has also been an MotF on the subject of an Anglo-American cold war.
I find the subject interesting on a number of levels; how a rift might be created between the two close allies, how the soviet union could have been relegated to a comparatively lower position, who would side with whom and what are sensible strategies in the fighting of a cold war.

my first thoughts on the subject are as follows:
a) the Governments of the United States and the United Kingdom the early 40's are ideologically, substantially different, the former being very progressive, the later being frankly reactionary. Which is to say, they have many things to fight about, not least of which is the future organization and the status of the British empire, should the ideological differences mentioned above persist(or even expand), that is.
b) It is my view that the second world war was very difficult for the Soviet Union and that, if it had sustained much more damage in the earlier stages of the war it could have serious trouble maintaining an efficient economy. A result of which could be a serious weakening of the red army's ability to launch substantial offensive operations, meaning an eastern front that is reminiscent of the Sino-Japanese war and a free Poland.
c) a combination of the last to points could lead the a situation where there simultaneously there are greater differences between the two parties and little outside reason to hang together culminating in a conflict.

Ultimately this seems extremely unlikely to me, to put it mildly. Perhaps you chaps have some more sensible ideas about the subject and if so I'd be interested in hearing them.
