Poll will soon be incoming. I think it should have been ratified- it would have strangled the BQ in its cradle, weakened the PQ (though not entirely- the PQ was guaranteed a win in '94), and ended the gaping hole in the '82 Constitution that is Quebec's signature. Also would've helped restore the regional balance of power.

I disagree. Some of the propositions in the plan were good, such as increased provincial powers for immigration, the compensation program for provinces opting out of federal programs and more provincial input in appointing senators and supreme court judges.

The constitutional veto to Quebec however would've been an absolute disaster. If anything, that would increase the power of the PQ and Separatists in the Province, as they would tout that kind of recognition as English Canada already pre-empting a recognition for Quebec as an independent entity and state.

The Senate reform was weak and watered down and gave Quebec an unequal share of seats in the government- largely at the expense of the West and Ontario. Despite having only maybe 2.3x the population of B.C. at the time, Quebec would've had 3x their seats.. and B.C., which was 24 times the size of P.E.I., would've ended up with only 2x as many seats as P.E.I. I'm not saying they should've gotten 24 seats, it's just an absurd imbalance (and with an effective senate, would've given the Maritimes a ridiculous amount of influence in legislation).

Not sure what you mean by the "regional balance of power". If you mean Ontario doesn't dominate as much sure, but it was hardly a concession to the West and basically bent the federal system over to Quebec.

Well, JTF2 should've just gone in and raided those indians. I mean, they were in cahoots with Hell's Angels to sell bootleg cigarettes, and- Oh. I was thinking Gustafsen Lake. Sorry.

Oh...this is going to be bad. Remember the last time we talked about Meech Lake? Some douchenozzle from Quebec came in with the point of view that we needed to pay attention to the needs of the people of an independent Quebec, so long as they could screw the indians however they felt like.
