Discussion: JFK negotiations on Ireland

When JFK visited Ireland in '63, Valera tried to convert him to his cause. Of course, he had praised Valera many years earlier while running for Congress. But could he involve himself in the issue with Macmillan, Home or Wilson?

Very funny. If he wasn't assassinated...

... then he would probably never go beyond mouthing empty platitudes about nebulous concepts like "self-determination".

Honestly, I don't see any American president directly confronting the british over this, at least as long as events in northern Ireland go roughly as IOTL. Too much risk of ruining the special relationship.

MacMillan tells him to fuck off and mind his own business. In the nicest way possible of course.

Quite right Lord Brisbane.

Also pointing out that the Loyalist majority easily outnumbers the Nationalist minority which is why Ireland was partitioned in the first place
