Discussion forum split: use this forum for PODs before 1900 AD

The old Discussion forum has now been split into TWO forums. The split is based on the time when the alternate history diverges from real history. There is now one forum for alternate history that diverges before the year 1900 AD, and one forum for alternate history that diverges from 1900 AD to the present.

This forum is for the discussion of alternate history which diverges BEFORE 1900. Purely 20th or 21st century alternate histories will be moved to the other forum.

Please note that there are thousands of threads posted before this split. They will remain in the "before 1900" forum for the forseeable future, because moving them would be too labor-intensive.

Just a question Ian.

Why is this in pre 1900 when the POD was 1919.

Not that I care as long as I know where it is.:D

Sorry just read the last part of the sticky so don't worry.

So, where exactly do we put challenges? I mean, if you really have have no idea where to put it, neither does anyone else.

Most challenges are pretty self-evident: either they deal with mostly 20th century history, or they're likely to need a POD much further back. If you *really* don't know where to put it, just pick either forum.

Gotcha, thanks.

Man, haven't been here in a while, but y'all were considering this. Damn. You did it. And only a few problems. Man. No spammail to the members, just "BAM." And it's done. You did it. You finally, really did it. Damn you! Damn you all to he... Whoops! :p

Sorry, I get wierd when I'm in a good mood. :) Hope all this helps the overgrowth. My experience with expanding highways, however...

Well since it gives me a good place from which to discuss if the CSA had won or other such PODs without having to deal with endless WWII PODS its a good idea.

Though i would recommend taking a split of the post-1900 and future history under advisement, if you haven't already. Just seems that the decision 2008 and a couple others are drawing lots of attention lately, as are "U.S. falling" TL's that talk about the future.

However, when I was here a while back there was none of that. So, perhaps that's something that just cycles and isnt' big enough to worry about.

As Important the post 1900 world was, In terms of seminal events
it is vastly overshadowe by pre -1900 events.

A better Split is ~1500AD, Columbian/Pre-columbian. Techonological
Dominance of the West is the Large Lever that upset the world order.

But look at the number of posts - they're fairly equal. If you made the split at 1500 there would be hardly any posts in the pre-1500 forum.

True. While 1500 is generally considered the starting point of the (early) modern history, modern history is simply so much more popular. However, still a cut-off point at 1800 would maybe have been better, seeing as the French Revolution is seen as the starting point of the modern modern history (excuse my terminology, I dont really know how it is in English). Or, for, ulated otherwis,e it just makes (IMO) so much more sense t group the 19thc entury with the 20th century, than with the centuries before.

Yes, and that would be a convenient reminder to you when nationalism started. :D

Should this one finally be unstickied so as to make room for one more thread on the first page?
