Discussion: Cliche American Presidents

Well, the Kennedys have now been divvied up amongst us Kexperts. ;) Maverick has full rights on Joe Jr., I am writing the first Joe Sr. POTUS TL in a long time (if not the first on the New Board), and Norton is doing Jack. I wrote the first JFK Jr. TL. Ted is often used, and RFK is mostly ubiquituous because he always makes an appearance in my TLs ;), at least until glenn67 posted his recently.

Some Kennedy TLs I haven't seen are a standalone RFK Jr. as POTUS TL (after his father's death), or a POTUS Kathleen Kennedy (RFK's daughter, not the Marchioness) TL.

He's a cliche, admit it.

A Prussian on the Spanish Throne, your TL, Citizen of a Righteous Cause, this other major TL I can't comment about since it'd be a spoiler, several minor TLs through the ages, thousands of WIs...

His is a much different Bryan, but yes you are right. He is a cliche. Still useful though.

Robert Dole
Ronald Reagan
Richard Nixon
Nelson Rockefeller
Bill Clinton
Henry “Scoop” Jackson
Edward “Ted” Kennedy

I disagree on Nixon. You don't see him outside of his box often (ATL 1960 where everything went OTL route until the election or Nixon wins in 1968 and everything goes along with some alteration). I actually think Nixon is a more recent trend going on now, and only on AH.com.

Nelson Rockefeller is what I'd call a Phantom Cliche; that being something popularly thought of as cliche even though it actually isn't used that much. I've actually very seldom seen Rocky in ATLs as the President. So I'm on the fence.

I had Nixon in '53, which I think was done only once before. The problem is past 1972 he's either too old or missed the boat too many times. Something really interesting would be a POTUS Winthrop Rockefeller TL, or POTUS Nancy Davis.

But, while for some reason people have just gone nuts with Dick Nixon in the past few months (Tail Gunner Joe, September Ends, and a few more) and I think its only really been the past few months, I don't think he's ad infinatum overused enough to be cliche.

Nancy Reagan? ... The Actor?

I guess Nixon's still hated by AH.commers. ;)

You never know. I mean, Ahnold was elected Gov. of California in 2002.

Has there ever been a TL with a POTUS George Romney, or a POTUS Bob Finch? That would be interesting, given that Finch was thought "presidentiable" if he had sought higher offices like the Govship or the Senate.
