What I’m asking here is what would have happened if the Romans followed a different approach during the vandalic and gothic war. Basically a brief gothic war and a long and devastating vandalic war. What I am aiming for is a productive Italy (and if you want you can add Pannonia and arelate), with Rome as the greatest city of the West ( with its consequences on the Roman senate and the italic elites) while Africa is left ravaged with the city of Carthage following the same destiny of Rome OTL. If you need to change something before the reign of Justinian you re allowed to do so but I would like to see most of the events of his reign unchanged (plague, war with Persia ecc) at least until his death. How this changes would affect the empire and especially the western part of it?
