Different TV drama

WI (and I fear it would require asb intervention) Sympathetic portayals of Social workers and teachers was as common as crime stories in TV drama?

Would it reduce the fear of crime?

The problem is dramas ultimately want to put people in life and death situations, which means that if you're telling a story that's basically set in ordinary society you don't have a lot of options besides crime stories and hospital stories.

That said, assuming this does somehow happen (maybe government controlled TV with an agenda?) it probably would reduce people's crime paranoia a bit.

It boils down to the fact that people watch tv (and read, and go to movies, and play video games, and use the Internet, etc.) to escape the trials of everyday life. If media is too close to everyday life, it simply becomes a harsh reminder of one's own problems. That is why there are so many crime dramas and the like.
