So in 1241 Konrad gets Cracow, being childless and 54 years old he named his great-nephew-4 years old Odon, son of (would be Saint) Casimir, thus getting support of Duchess Dowager (of course lords of Cracow also would like to have something to say about it, but Konrad, being closest adult male relative of Casimir and ruler of large duchy, which avoided Mongol devastation, obvious candidate to win race to Cracow's throne). Still, his position compared to previous High Dukes is weakened. He controls eastern part of Poland directly, but using opportunity of death of Duke of Cracow on battlefield, Duke Świętopełk of Pomerelia made his duchy fully independent. Not for long-in 1243 Świętopełk is killed during Prussian raid. His sons and brothers fights to carve up as much from his inheritance as possible, oldest son of Świętopełk-Mściwoj, allied with Duke of Cracow-Konrad would help him to restore unity of Pomerelia, in exchange he would agree to be Konrad's vassal. Mściwoj's uncles and brother look for support in Greater Poland and Pomerania.
