Different Italian Unification?

We don't have enough Italian Unification PODs on this thread, so I have a 'what if' on Italian Unification. What if the French under Napolean III didn't stop the war with Austria? Would the success go on and Italy unify right then and there, or would Prussia get involved in a general European war?

WI a far more successful Piedmontese war of national reunification in 1848-49 ? Followed by a much more successful campaign by Garibaldi in seizing southern italy and the papal states, so Italy is reunified before 1860 ? (hmmm, haven't considered Italian nationalism as much as back in yr 12 studying 19th C European nationalism)

What about a "less successful" unification?

WI Garibaldi doesn't do his thing, and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and most of the Papal States remain separate from the new Kingdom of Italy? Does Italy/Piedmont stay in the French sphere? Since Italy/Piedmont has a counterbalance to the south, does it play less of a tie-breaker role in the pre-WWI European allience system? Is Italy/Piedmont less susceptible to delusions of grandeur? Italy's Libyan/Turkish adventure destabilized the Eastern Med in 1911 in a similar way that her Ethiopian adventure destabilized it in 1935.... with these butterflied out what would WWI and WWII look like?
