Part I
Major Events:
French-Indian War: The only difference between this ATL and OTL is the Treaty of Paris ending the war. France is forced to cede Haiti to Spain, and Louisiana to the United Kingdom, while keeping Canada.
American Revolution: More than less the same as OTL, after the war all British territory east of the Mississippi, including New Orleans is ceded to the United States. Loyalists from the colonies are resettled in British Louisiana Territory. Georgetown founded at the site of OTL Morgan City grows overnight to be the territories largest city and most important port. With the help of the French from Canada, Nova Scotia is incorporated as the 14th State.
French Revolution: Same as OTL, only the future Louis XVII escapes death when he is whisked out of France by an Uncle. With British aid, French Canada remains loyal to the exiled King with Montreal acting as the capital for the exiled court.
Napoleonic Wars: Again same as OTL, the British have an ally with the Royalist French. Upon the conclusion of the war, Louis XVII is returned to France and assumes his place as King. Another change is Spanish concession of Mexican lands to British Louisiana; Mexican territory north of the Brazos River is ceded to the British Empire.
No War of 1812: Alexander Hamilton is spared when the bullet of rival Aaron Burr grazes his shoulder. In 1808 Hamilton is elected the fourth President of the United States, and sides with the British Empire during the Napoleonic Wars, although officially the US remains neutral, the British and Royalist French receive American support in Canada.
Alternate Marriages: As part of the return to normalcy in France and Europe, King Louis XVII married his distant cousin, Infante Maria Isabel of Portugal. In OTL she married her maternal uncle King Ferdinand VII of Spain. Three years after marrying Louis, Queen Consort Maria Isabel gives birth to a baby boy, Dauphin Jean. With his niece spoken for, King Ferdinand VII married Caroline Augusta of Bavaria; the couple had a son Philip two years later. Emperor Francis I of Austria married Princess Adélaïde, the sister of OTL King Louis Philippe.
The decline of the Spanish Empire: Slowly but certainly the old and once powerful Spanish Empire began to collapse. By the 1830’s only Cuba, Puerto Rico, and all of Hispanola remained in the Spanish Empire.
Greek War of Independence: Not too much has changed from OTL to this ATL, Greece still achieves independence after receiving help from the Great Powers (France, Russia, Britian). The freed Greek territory is roughly the same as OTL, and Athens will be rebuilt as the nations capital.
Abolished Slavery: Slavery was losing favor across the world, the British Empire was the first major power to abolish slavery in 1833, France followed suit in 1842, the United States in 1857, Russia (with the serfs) in 1863, Spain in 1864, Ottoman Empire in 1874 and by Brazil in 1881.
Mormon Rebellion and Californian Dreaming: The Republic of Mexico had for years allowed for “English” settlement in its northern territories, now it came to regret the decision. The Mormon’s rose up against the Mexican’s in 1849 declaring independence as the Republic of Deseret. Strangely enough the Mormon’s were supported in their battle by the Comanche and Navajo nations, who like the Mormon’s desired independence from Mexico. Though the three insurrections were no match for the Mexican Army, the settlers of California used the crisis to declare their own independence, finally in 1852, the United Kingdom, France and the United States pushed Mexico to accept the new nations and restore peace to the North American continent.
American Civil War: The American Civil War began in 1853 and lasted until 1857; the hot button issue of the day was the institution of slavery and states rights. Several southern states seceded from the Union to form the American Confederation, after several years of brutal warfare, the states in rebellion were restored to the Union, and slavery was finally abolished in the United States. The American Civil War is credited with advancing battlefield medicine and modern warfare.
Tsars of Russia: The reign of the Tsar’s of Russia is unchanged until 1855, in OTL Nicholas I died of reasons unknown, however without the Crimean War, Nicholas survives for a few more years, dying of pneumonia in 1860, his son Alexander II succeeds him and begins a series of reforms that last through his life time, until his death in 1891.
Italian War of Unification: Italy was unified as a country in the 1850s and 1860s with the exception of the Papal States. King Jean III of France made it very clear to the Italian Kingdom that France would not allow for Italy to annex the Papal States even on the pain of war.
North German Unity: Not too unlike OTL, only France is allied to Austria, preventing a war between the North German League and Austrian Empire, the southern German states remain independent and allied to Austria and France.
Balkans Crisis: The weakening Ottoman Empire was losing ground and was forced to cede Bosnia to Austria, and grant independence to Serbia (1871), Moldavia (1875), Wallachia (1877), and Bessarabia (1882). For the first time since Napoleon sat on the throne of France, war between two major powers loomed on the horizon, with Russia pushing the Ottoman Empire for granting Bulgarian independence; it was only when the Ottomans received the backing of the British did Russia back down, but with the Treaty of Adrianople granting Bulgaria autonomy.
Death of Queen Victoria: Victoria had been the monarch of the British Empire since 1836, her death in 1897 would mark the end of an era, and is considered to be the zenith of the British Empire. Victoria was succeeded by her son King Albert I (OTL Edward VII).
The Web of Alliances: During the 1890’s Europe found itself in a dangerous predicament, with the rise of so many mighty Empire’s sharing so close of borders, war seemed likely and to deter any potential enemies the nations of Europe formed alliances with one another, eventually clumping up into two distinct groups. The Quadruple Entente consisted of Russia, France, Austria-Hungary and Spain while the Quadruple Alliance consisted of Italy, the British Empire, the North German League and the Ottoman Empire.
The First Olympics: For the first time in many centuries the world saw the first Olympic games held in Athens in 1896, it was agreed to hold the event every four years in cities across the world, the 1900 games were to be held in London and the 1904 games in New York.
