Is it possible to make America an Imperial-ish power?

By this I mean is it possible for America to claim colonies in Africa or South East Asia and possibly get involved in European affairs?

You mean like helping to found Liberia, send troops into combat for over 10 years in Vietnam, and decisively intervene in all three of Europe's major 20th century ground wars (WWI, WWII, Yugoslav Civil War)?

Or the fact that it had an asian colony in the Phillipines? Not to mention constantly interfering in Latin America for its own gains? Yeah, america was an imperialist power IOTL. So obviously, it's possible.

 yes because having one imperialist colony, and enforcing your interests on your smaller neighbors makes to an imperialist power that fact is the USA wasn't an imperial power in the age of imperialism, it had one colony and pushed Latin America around, we never took them over, and there is no way any one can say Liberia was an imperialistic act we were throwing people out of America not trying to make a colony in Africa

Probably not, for the same reason that Russia didn't get that heavily involved in the overseas colonies game: there's an entire continent in the US's backyard, and grabbing that takes precedence.

That's pretty much what happened OTL though you can make it even more so. Maybe after the Phllipines, the US enters World War I earlier and seizes the German colonies in the Pacific but Africa is more hard.

As people have said, this was OTL, pretty much- the USA intervened in European affairs rather decisively in 1917, IIRC. As for enforcing your interests on smaller powers, that is Imperialism. Look at it this way; in about 1915 or so, who had more genuine freedom of action in the country they were the leader of- President Díaz of Nicaragua or Asaf Jah VII, the Nizam of Hyderabad? There's a certain parallel.

Could the US be more involved? Probably. Intervention for human rights reasons is the best option. Keep George Washington Williams alive for a bit longer and perhaps President Bryan or similar can invade the Congo to rescue its population from King Leopold's heel...

Okay, you kind of missed the point. What I mean is if America actually perused imperialism like the other great powers. I mean REAL colonies in Africa, and not interventions, real colonies. Is this possible? Maybe have the US get more into the slave trade before Britain starts in forcing the slave trade.
